PRIMM, NEVADA, July 23 (Vegas News Online) — Primm Valley Casino reopened Wednesday, July 22, in Primm, Nevada, after Terrible’s took control of the property 17 days earlier. The reopening matters because Primm sits on the California-Nevada border along Interstate 15, a stop many travelers pass on the way between Southern California and Las Vegas.
Here is a simple guide to what changed, who is involved, and why the reopening is getting attention.
What reopened?
Terrible’s said the casino reopened with 422 gaming machines, 250 hotel rooms, a William Hill sportsbook, a sports bar and a 24-hour quick-bites restaurant. The company also held a brief ceremony and included remarks from Terrible’s executives and Corey Clemetson, who was identified as the grandson of Primm founder Ernie Primm.
In addition to the casino floor, Terrible’s said new promotions and rewards launched on reopening day, and more dining options were already being planned.
Why does the reopening matter?
Primm Valley Casino is part of a small resort area that serves drivers crossing the desert between California and Nevada. The site has long been a familiar stop for fuel, food, gambling and overnight stays.
That made the July reopening significant for travelers as well as for Nevada gaming observers. Terrible’s said it was moving quickly to restore operations after taking over control of the property.
How did the transition happen?
The Nevada Gaming Control Board approved Terrible Herbst’s application on June 25 to operate Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino, Primm Valley Resort & Casino and Whiskey Pete’s Hotel & Casino. The board also approved a restricted gaming license for Primm Center at the Primm Valley Resort.
Affinity Interactive later said that management control of the gaming properties transferred at 12:01 a.m. on July 5 to the property’s landlord and Terrible’s. In the same statement, Affinity said Terrible’s had already taken over management of Primm Center, the Chevron gas station, Flying J, Whiskey Pete’s Travel Store, the Lotto Store and Starbucks on July 1, and that those businesses reopened by July 2 for holiday travelers.
Affinity also said Primm Valley Casino was the only casino property open before the transition and that its immediate focus was to reopen it in the coming weeks.
What changed for customers?
Terrible’s said it is eliminating resort fees at Primm Valley Casino. Resort fees are extra mandatory charges that hotels and casinos often add on top of the posted room rate.
The company also said it would match rewards tiers previously earned by returning customers. In practical terms, that means some loyalty status should carry over rather than forcing guests to start over.
What is still being developed?
Terrible’s said more dining options are planned, but it did not give a full menu of future changes in the reopening announcement.
The broader June deal was described by reporters as a partnership between the Herbst family’s Terrible’s and the Primm family intended to keep the resort operating and avoid a scheduled July 4 closure. Reporting earlier in July said the property was expected to reopen within weeks, but no firm date had been announced at that time.
For now, the key change is straightforward: after a short transfer period, Primm Valley Casino is back in business, with Terrible’s in control and trying to turn a high-traffic border stop into a steadier stop for gamblers and travelers alike.
