WASHINGTON, June 25 (DC Times Online) — The National Park Service says the Lincoln Memorial’s hidden 15,000-square-foot undercroft will open to the public June 25, adding a new timed-entry stop beneath one of Washington’s most visited landmarks.
The space has been closed to visitors since the memorial opened in 1922. The park service says the exhibit area will feature interactive displays and multimedia presentations on the memorial’s construction and its role in American history and civil rights.
The project is funded in partnership with the National Park Foundation, according to the park service.
Admission will be free, but advance reservations will carry a $1 service fee. Tickets can be booked through Recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-6777, the park service said.
Same-day tickets will be distributed beginning at 8:45 a.m. at the Korean War Veterans Memorial kiosk on Daniel Chester French Drive, just south of the Lincoln Memorial.
