NEW ORLEANS, June 27 (DC Times Online) — James Carville said Democrats should talk about a “schism” and said he could not be in the same party as Darializa Avila Chevalier, a New York congressional candidate described in coverage as backed by Zohran Mamdani.

Speaking on the Politicon podcast, the veteran Democratic strategist said, “I’m done” and “I’m not in that f—ing political party.” He also said he did not want to be in a party “that denies the right of the state of Israel to exist.”

Carville pointed to comments he attributed to Avila Chevalier about interracial relationships and the American flag. “Lady, I ain’t in the same party as you,” he said.

He also said Democrats should “negotiate the terms of a schism” and suggested that people who reject the party should “start your own movement” or “form your own party.”

The comments followed New York Democratic primary coverage that said Avila Chevalier won a congressional race against Rep. Adriano Espaillat. Carville had previously warned in a New York Times op-ed that Democrats were moving toward a “civilized civil war” and said any split should wait until after the 2026 midterm elections.
