CHICAGO, July 6 (Our Illinois Times) — The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate after Delta Air Lines Flight 1076 landed safely at Chicago Midway International Airport on Saturday night following a reported fireworks strike just before touchdown.

The FAA said the Airbus A319 had departed from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and was nearing landing in Chicago around 8:30 p.m. local time on July 4 when the pilot reported that a fireworks mortar hit the aircraft.

Delta said the plane carried 52 passengers and six crew members. The airline said the flight landed safely and taxied to the gate, and no injuries were reported.

Delta said mechanics inspected the aircraft after landing and did not find damage. Chicago police told the BBC that the plane had been struck by an unknown object and sustained minor paint damage.

The FAA said it will investigate the incident.
