WASHINGTON, June 15 (DC Times Online) — Sen. Mitch McConnell was admitted to a Washington hospital on the morning of June 14, and his office said on June 16 that he remained engaged with Senate business while receiving care.

David Popp, a spokesperson for the Kentucky Republican, said in a statement that McConnell was “receiving excellent care.” Popp did not disclose why McConnell was hospitalized or identify the hospital.

On June 16, Popp told CBS News that McConnell was “fully engaged with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters.”

McConnell, 84, was also hospitalized earlier this year. Popp said on Feb. 2 that McConnell checked himself into a local hospital for evaluation after experiencing “flu-like symptoms” over the previous weekend.

He was discharged on Feb. 10 after about eight days in the hospital. After his release, Popp said McConnell was feeling better and would work from home for the rest of that week on doctors’ advice.
