SALT LAKE CITY, June 26 (Brigham City News) — Utah Gov. Spencer J. Cox on June 25 ordered temporary statewide fireworks restrictions through July 5, affecting residents planning July Fourth displays across the state, as officials cited extraordinary wildfire conditions.

The governor’s office said the order allows the state forester to prohibit fireworks statewide during the Independence Day period while still letting municipalities, working with local fire officials, designate specific areas where fireworks can be used safely.

Officials said Utah’s wildfire conditions have produced hundreds of fires, strained firefighting resources and created some of the most dangerous fire behavior in state history.

State officials said they will review wildfire conditions again before deciding whether any restrictions are needed for Pioneer Day on July 24.
