MIAMI, July 23 (Our Florida Times) — Burger King is making two new changes meant to answer a basic fast-food problem: getting the order right.
The company said it is rolling out a reworked restaurant manager job called the “Your Way Champion” and a “Whopper Guarantee” for burgers that do not meet a customer’s expectations. Burger King announced the changes in a company post from Miami, Florida, saying they were shaped by customer feedback gathered earlier in the year through phone calls and text messages.
What is the “Your Way Champion”?
Burger King describes the Your Way Champion as a redesigned restaurant manager role that puts the guest experience first. The company says the person in that role will wear a special uniform and serve as a point person for customers. Burger King also says the job is meant to focus on customization and satisfaction.
In simple terms, the company is trying to make one employee clearly responsible for making sure a customer feels heard when something goes wrong.
What is the Whopper Guarantee?
Burger King says the Whopper Guarantee is meant to back up its signature sandwich. If a Whopper does not meet expectations, the company says the restaurant will remake it on the spot. Burger King also says the guest can get a free next Whopper through a QR code, which is a scannable code that can be used on a phone.
Burger King has not publicly explained every detail of how the QR-code redemption works, including any time limits or other rules.
Why is Burger King doing this now?
Burger King says the changes came after it opened phone lines and asked customers to send in honest feedback earlier this year. The company said it received thousands of calls and texts.
Tom Curtis, president of Burger King US and Canada, said in interviews that the company heard complaints about the Whopper being squashed or the bun not meeting expectations. On CNBC, Curtis said Burger King had been listening closely to guests. On the same earnings call, Restaurant Brands International CEO Joshua Kobza said the updated sandwich was getting positive feedback and was producing the highest average unit volumes for the Whopper in more than three years.
How does this connect to the Whopper changes Burger King made earlier?
The new service rules build on a Whopper update Burger King announced in February. The company said it changed the sandwich’s bun, made the mayonnaise creamier, and switched to box or clamshell packaging instead of paper. Burger King said those updates were the first major changes to the Whopper in almost 10 years and were available at more than 7,000 locations across the country.
Burger King said the goal was not to reinvent the sandwich. In its official post, the company said it was improving the Whopper based on direct guest feedback while keeping it a quarter-pound burger made with 100% flame-grilled beef.
What is still unclear?
Burger King has not said whether the Your Way Champion role will appear in every restaurant or only in some locations. It also has not said whether the Whopper Guarantee applies to all versions of the Whopper or only the standard sandwich. The company also has not shared details about whether the new role changes staffing, wages or franchise costs.
For now, the changes show Burger King trying to make one thing clear to customers: if the order is wrong, the company wants a second chance to fix it.
