NAPA, Calif., July 5 (Sonoma Times) — Napa County sheriff’s deputies said Paul Pelosi, 86, is being referred for a possible misdemeanor hit-and-run charge after authorities said he struck a parked car in Yountville and drove away on July 3.

Deputies responded about 2:30 p.m. to the 6700 block of Yount Street after a report of a collision, according to the sheriff’s office statement. Authorities said Pelosi’s brown convertible hit a legally parked car, and no injuries were reported.

The sheriff’s office said Pelosi later told investigators he had hit something but did not know what it was. A preliminary alcohol screening test returned 0.00, and investigators ruled out driving under the influence.

Deputies did not arrest him, saying that is common for misdemeanor offenses under California Penal Code section 853.6, according to the statement. The case was referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for review, and a California DMV re-evaluation referral was said to be forthcoming.

The July 3 incident came about four years after Napa County prosecutors filed misdemeanor DUI-with-injury charges against Pelosi in a 2022 crash, according to a district attorney’s office press release. That release said a blood sample showed a .082% blood alcohol content and that he was to be arraigned in Napa County Superior Court.
