ROYAL OAK, Mich., July 6 (Our Michigan Times) — Mallory McMorrow dropped out of Michigan’s Democratic U.S. Senate primary on Saturday, leaving U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed as the only Democrats in the race ahead of the Aug. 4 vote, according to McMorrow’s statement posted to X.
In the post, McMorrow said, “Whoever wins this primary on August 4 will have my full support.” CNN, NBC News and Reuters reported that she ended her campaign and did not endorse either of the remaining candidates.
The winner of the primary will seek the open Senate seat now held by Democratic Sen. Gary Peters, who is not running for re-election. The reports identified former U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers as the Republican side’s likely nominee.
McMorrow had been one of three major candidates in the race. AP reporting republished by U.S. News said Stevens, McMorrow and El-Sayed appeared together in a May 28 debate on Mackinac Island, and USA Today reported that McMorrow had raised more than $8.6 million by the end of March.
