SAN FRANCISCO, July 23 (San Francisco News Online) — Marin County prosecutors have charged Sausalito City Manager Elaine Forbes with four misdemeanor counts stemming from a yacht incident in Sausalito, and a judge on Wednesday released her on her own recognizance after she agreed to a psychiatric evaluation, according to Marin County court proceedings.

Forbes appeared in Marin County Superior Court before Judge Cindee Mayfield, with attorney Randall Knox representing her. Knox asked that Forbes be released without bail so she could undergo the evaluation, and the judge granted the request, court records and court reporting show.

Forbes had been held in the Marin County Jail on $50,000 bail before the release order, according to jail records.

Court records show prosecutors charged Forbes with loitering on private property, theft of personal property and two counts of lodging without an owner’s consent. Forbes did not enter a plea at the brief hearing, according to reporting from the court appearance.

She was arrested over the weekend after law enforcement found her aboard a yacht in Sausalito that did not belong to her, according to arrest records and statements from her representatives. Sam Singer, who speaks for Forbes and her family, said she was experiencing a mental health crisis.

KQED reported that Forbes is due back in court on Aug. 11.
