NASSAU, Bahamas, July 13 (World Daily Times) — Bahamian aviation regulators temporarily suspended Flamingo Air’s Air Operator Certificate after two Friday incidents involving the carrier, including a North Andros plane crash that killed 10 people and a separate flight fire in Nassau, officials said.
The Civil Aviation Authority Bahamas said the grounding was a precautionary safety measure and not an adverse compliance action against Flamingo Air. The Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation said the earlier flight had turned back to Nassau after the pilot reported a concern, and the aircraft caught fire after passengers deplaned.
The fatal crash involved a Flamingo Air Cessna 402 that departed Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau and went down before reaching San Andros Airport, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority of the Bahamas said. Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis said one person survived.
The Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union said Saturday that musicians and a DJ were among those killed, and said five members of Da Pond Band were among the victims. The identities of those who died have not been released.
Investigators from the AAIA and inspectors from the CAAB remained at the North Andros scene as they worked to determine the cause of the crash.
